October is the official month for domestic violence awareness. Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women – that’s more than breast cancer, lung cancer and ovarian cancer combined. Most people think only of physical abuse when they consider domestic violence. Yet, financial abuse happens in 98 percent of all cases of domestic violence and is one of the most powerful ways to control a victim.
UPDATE: We came in 15th place out of over 160 charities competing nation-wide!
We raised $23,450 which includes donations from over 150 different individual/corporations as well as $4,250 in bonus $$ from the Allstate Foundation. These dollars were given for winning one of the weekly challenges, a matching donation, as well as placing 15th overall. This was our second year participating in the Purple Purse Campaign that helps raise awareness about financial abuse and the importance of financial empowerment for victims of domestic violence. We can’t wait for next year and hope to have your support again for the 2016 challenge!
We are partnering with the AllState Foundation for a second annual Purple Purse Challenge to raise funds and awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Purple Purse Significance:
The Purple Purse was created because a purse represents the center of a woman’s financial domain and purple is the national color for domestic violence awareness. It is a symbol to educate the community about domestic violence and financial abuse. Watch the video below for PurplePurse Ambassador Kerry Washington share why this campaign and stopping financial and domestic abuse is so important.
